Peeple Launches On Kickstarter To Be Caller ID For Front Doors

Peeple is a small camera and sensor that attaches to the peephole on your front door. When someone knocks, Peeple takes a video and sends a mobile notification. With Peeple, co-founder Chris Chuter says, the front door is no longer a blind spot.

Unlike other similar front door cameras, Peeple sits behind the front door and is easy to install. It sits on top of the peephole, and through a clever mounting solution, pops right off when it’s more convenient to look through the hole rather than at a phone. There’s no fuss or mess. It’s easy and to the point and perfect for renters as nothing is permanently mounted.

Peeple just launched on Kickstarter and is looking to raise $50,000 to bring the clever device to market.

In short, Peeple lets you keep a log of people who knock on your door. Chuter thought about this project when his two little boys left the house and played in the street without permission. Even if your door opens from the inside, Peeple tracks these events.

Behind the scenes, the device is quite simple. It’s a small box that you attach to your door right in front of your existing peephole. It has a camera, an accelerometer, a battery and a Wi-Fi chipset.

When someone knocks, the device wakes up, records a video and reconnects to your Wi-Fi network. It then sends a picture and a timestamp to Peeple’s servers. And you finally receive a push notification on your phone to check out who is at the door. Because the device only needs to wake up when someone is knocking, the battery is supposed to last six months on a single charge.

TechCrunch met Chuter at its Austin meetup last year. He had just finished prototyping the device at a local hackathon and applied to pitch the device at our Meetup. Shortly after that he was accepted into the Highway1 hardware accelerator program and later participated in TechCrunch’s Hardware Battlefield.

My First Blog Camp In Kumasi

Education and fun characterised the 2015 Blog Camp at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where among other activities was the Blog Walk organised into three groups.
My group was the #AdumGang led by Akosua Konadu Owusu, competing against the #SuameGang and the #AsafoGang.
The three groups had two hours to capture and post pictures of their respective communities; Adum, Suame and Asafo, explaining the activities and way of life of the people.
My group, the #AdumGang started slowly but steadily with a strategy backed by teamwork. Time not being on our side, we managed to capture real, un-photoshopped and on-the-spot pictures of Adum, the central business district of Kumasi.
Enjoy our journey, smiles and teamwork as we pushed hard to gain the first position from the bottom which came with a prize regardless, but a zeal to earn more in subsequent Blog Camps.

OWEC Ghana To Train Ten Unemployed Women And Establish Them With Seed Capital In Kumasi

Though progress is slow, women are starting to get more and more involved in the startup world. They’re on more founding teams, and are joining boards of directors at a faster rate than ever before. However, this fast changing women involvement in business startups is only happening in the western world leaving the African continent in a slow pace.

Women tend to generate higher revenue with one-third less capital than men. This is the very reason OPAC WOMEN EMPOWERMENT CENTER, GHANA is committing to train ten (10) unemployed women and establish them with seed capital in Kumasi.

OWEC Ghana believes that women especially those in Ghana have the rights, privileges, opportunities and voice to cause the positive changes they want. But the situation will change only when women as individuals are ready to change from within: having a new mindset and attitude towards life.
According the Executive Director of Owec Ghana, Ms Comfort OpokuAnimah, these unemployed women will be seletcted from Kumasi Metropolis, the surrounding communities such as Bremang, Suame, Kronon, Bohyen and Tafo.

As part of the packages to invest in our women, they will be given seed capital to establish their businesses. Their startups will be monitored and nurtured by OWEC Ghana to make sure they have sustainable businesses to improve their lives and the people around them. She said this during the launch of their new project #SaveMyLife Project which seeks to train young women in the Ashanti Region.
